The Beatles (2) - I wanna be your man

The Beatles, els escarabats, veritat? No. Escarabats s’escriu beetles en anglès, però ells van fer un joc de lletres que juga amb la paraula BEAT, el qual significa “ritme” i també dona nom a un grup de pensadors alternatius dels anys 50/60, the Beat Generation.
Bé, al mateix any 1963 van gravar el segon disc, With The Beatles, tornant a repetir la barreja de versions (Roll over Beethoven, Please Mr Postman) amb la seva pròpia obra, All My Loving, o aquesta, I Wanna Be Your Man on comencem a apreciar un altre tret important del grup – el sentit de l’humor. D’arrels musics està clar que tenen, però també no podem oblidar que van ser grans fans dels humoristes anglesos surreals dels anys 50 i 60, The Goon Show, Spike Milligan etc, i això queda reflectit tan en les seves lletres com en l’actitud i opinions que anirien repartint a qui els escoltava.

Their name, the Beatles, is a play on words using the Beat Generation as a source of inspiration as well as the obvious meaning of beat/rhythm.
In 1963 they recorded their second album, With The Beatles, combining versions of songs such as Roll Over Beethoven, and Please Mr Postman with their own hits like All My Loving or today’s clip – I wanna be your man – where we can see another important feature of the group – their sense of humour. Obviously the Beatles were fans of great musicians from the 50s, but maybe not everyone realises they were also fans of British humour, especially the surreal kind carried out by the likes of The Goon Show or Spike Milligan.
